Is this a crusty old barrel :-)

    Gary,

Saw this in the Thames today while walking back from a customer visit and instantly thought of your barrels. I could not resist taking the picture and playing with it in PSE, hope you don't mind.

Tried using your technique to see what would happen - needless to say the Thames looks much the same just more pallatable in B&W!!!!

Taken with a FujiFilm 4700z at full optical magnification and it still looked small.

Roger, wow is that crusty. Wish i could happen upon something like that around by me. Is there any way you could get closer to it, and maybe if there is a lesser tide to expose a little more. Would love to see you try this one again and capture the texture of the crust. i think you would have to get it sharper and in some light. nice touch with the Gull on top.

Re: Is this a crusty old barrel :-)

    Gary,

No chance of getting closer to it as I was on the embankment with no way down to the shore. The tide when in will be about 3m higher and the shore disappears within a few minutes of the tide comming in. This was taken at low tide.

It was a typical UK winters day - dull but at least the rain held off.

The camera is only a 3 x zoom - If I get a chance I will take the Canon which is 7x or 200mm in old money and see what I can do.

Can't guarantee the Gull next time.

As Gary pointed out, that texture could be amazing!

    Great shot.
