    Creeping Light

I am working through a new project on light, as it is essential to any photographic image. My beginning thoughts are this: While light does create mood and depth it also has movement. What I am processing through is capturing both quality and movement of light but I'm not sure how possible this will be. It may become difficult to compose several images without the content feeling too repetitive. Anyway, here is a test image and a starting point for me. Please feel free to comment on the image, concept or both.

    Regards,

    Phil

Not sure I have a sense of creeping movement in looking at this. My opinion may not necessarily reflect that of others.

    Re: Creeping Light

Phil - I am also somewhat bewildered on the creeping part, unless the deep shadow is it. That adds some dimensionality to the photo. Perhaps from another angle you would get this movement effect, but the light source would have to be striking the subject at a different angle than your camera lens is at.

For example - if you used a flash or other light againstthe front/tip (pretty much like you have it) and shot the photo from about 145 degrees from that, you might get an effect where the light is like the wind blowing a speeding biker's shirt tail backwards.

Also - the light is pretty extreme here, almost washing out the detail on the subject. But this might be a good start to the expt - good to go with extremes to see the effect, then back off as required. That can come later I think..

    Re: Creeping Light

Thanks for both of you replies. I agree with your comments. The concept needs further work. After looking again at the image it might be better titled creeping shadow. I also think I lost some of the image quality in my conversion to black and white. I will try to repost the original for further input.

    Re: Creeping Light

Just a quick thought, I would think in order to show the creeping shadow...u'd need a series of photos shot at equal intervals...however...the concept is interesting...but like the others...not sure how it can be done with a single picture...

Thanks for your input. I agree using a series of images will help this concept be better understood. This was a first try at this project. I am posting the original color image for further input. Again thanks.

    Re: Creeping Light

    Hi there,

The color image does a better job showing what you're trying to show, IMO. The b&w pic just ends up with the lighter part looking too bright, whereas in the color version, the shades of color help bring in the "creeping" effect.
A preference nit here, I would crop off about 1/2"-3/4" off the top...you wouldn't lose the effect, and the picture seems better balanced...to me.
