Good catch. Slightly overexposed - the white on his nose is blown - perhaps this is from pp though. Contrast looks a little too wide, most likely from post processing. Shot would have worked better at faster aperture - but you shot this with your kit 18-55 @ f5.6. Get yourself a 50mm prime, those work much better for these types of shots than the kits, and theyre super cheap too. The red branches on the right have some sharp lines in them that are a bit distracting from the main subject, on a faster aperture those sticks would be a lot softer, accenting the shot more so than distracting. Also - cutting off his foot doesn't help, if you got his foot and the surrounding land that would have anchored the image. Dogs aren't the most cooperative subjects though, I know ;). Definitely try a tight portrait crop.

I am also assuming that NX2 is Nikons picture editor/viewer?

I, too, think its somewhat over-saturated and I miss the foot but it is a wonderful catch and if you love your dog as much as I think you do, you'll print and hang this after messing about with the color some.

Great composition, right place right time, even before the dog has rung itself. S

    Fum photo.

To me the color seems just a bit off towards the red side of things.
    No, I DON'T need that.
