Thanks for the ideas. I did edit the contrast a bit, but not much. I wonder just how "true" to black and white my camera takes, you know what I mean? Thanks so much for the reply! I think I will work on the levels and contrast a bit and see if I can come up with something better. I have not worked much with levels When I have I just do what I think visually looks good. I am not 100% sure of the technical side of it!

What about this? I brightened up the whites a bit by clicking the whites eyedropper on a highlight I found in the lamp base, and then brought the midlevel greys back down just a smidge in curves.
