    A Couple Shots of Jessica

Some shots of my favorite model :P

Looking for any suggestions, as I take a lot of pictures of her and feel like there's plenty of room for improvement. (I'll also be getting a Rebel XTi pretty soon with a 50mm f1.8 and a 10mm-20mm, so suggestions involving that equipment will also help)

    Ya Rly.
Her left eye closed too much and unflattering or is it personable?

Is it bothersome that the top of her head is cropped off?

Not the greatest shot I know, but she wears glasses and it's mostly for reference. For a lot of the pictures, I have her take her glasses off because they have transition lenses that turn to sunglasses when it's bright out.

Re: A Couple Shots of Jessica

for the most part, I feel her poses and the looks she is giving the camera aren't doing her justice. #1 is a good location and a nice angle, but the neck bend and the eye as you mentioned look a little strange. on #2, the hotspots are distracting, but you won't run into that problem with your XTi, as it has a great dynamic range and shouldnt blow highlights as easily. The tightly pursed lips look a little strange. On 3, the expression is nice but the haloing around the face because of the HDR or burning is too much. Also, always try to avoid extending the nose past the cheek, because it becomes much more pronounced when you do.

you've got the makings of great portraits, its just the small things to watch out for. if they seem harsh, remember my comments are sometimes worth exactly what you pay for them. It's all about what you're looking to get out of the shots.

Thanks for your honesty, exactly the type of critique I was looking for, I'll try to keep all that in mind.

Re: A Couple Shots of Jessica

I think that the lighting and settings are fine. She has potential but could probably study up on model poses a bit more. I really like the first one but she does seem to be hunching over just a bit (tell her that models usually stand straight up). The second I am not sure about, seems you 'may' have gotten a little wide angle distortion (not sure). The third is OK but more of a snapshot.

    In all, not bad!
