a couple more winter root shots..

not quite roots but a similar technique.. more perpendicular to the flash so the lighting is more even.. the original roots was a little too blown in the forground these were taken at the same time.. full frame images no PP..

a 100% crop taken from the second root image just to emphasize exactly how a decent sized image is pretty much ruined by the act of downsizing.. 90% of the detail is simply lost..

Re: a couple more winter root shots..

I like the 2nd one more than the first, but I'm wondering how these would look if you took them during the day. Something about the dark background doesn't work for me. I can barely see another branch and some trees in the back. I think if those were well lit also, it would demonstrate a good use of depth of field.

You're absolutely right about the crop. It completely lost it's quality and the overall "message" of the picture. I think the reason why the first one doesn't work for me is because there just isn't enough of the subject in the frame and the viewer wonders what he/she's looking at.

it was taken in the daytime.. late afternoon.. the idea is a spooky forest.. just imagine some goblins lurking in the back ground.. he he

taken normally its just a boring old dead branch.. and seen at its intended size its a million times better than what u are looking at.. the crop is a very small part of an image that would be nearly three foot wide seen 100%.. i just posted it to show what detail gets lost with a major resample/downsize..

The subject matter is boring to me. Maybe do a different angle or a macro.

The ends of the roots leading off frame doesn't work for me.
Maybe an angular shot to include the ends?

odd how no one likes them.. the half dozen or so people that have seen the oiginals on my monitor are impressed by them.. but different people see different things..

there are no maybes needed.. if the idea/techique dosnt work for u it doesnt work.. thanks for the comments..
