    Could someone explain ?

I got this shot from my son holding a glass of cold drink . Nothing special .
I just used a flash in a room where the ligthning was a bit dark .
But what i do not understand is the strange light on the left side of the glass ?
With my poor knowledge of photography i do not know what was the cause of that ?
Could anyone maybe give me a reasonable explanation what happened there ?

    Thanks

    My Guess would be...

It lookes like the glass was being wiggled back and forth which caused the flash to bounce off of the liquid and the glass at a strange angle while taking on the color of the orange liquid in the bounced light.

The reason I would think this is the liquid in the glass is up on the opposite side of the glass than the glass is tilting (the liquid is uo on the front and the rim is tilting back towards the person) gravity says this is inpossible if the glass was sitting still at that angle.

Anyway that is my .02 cents, the photo does have cool look to it though.

    You know..

I would tend to agree with Irie, but you might get a little better explantion in the "Help Files"
    forum.
I can have this post moved there if you like.

Flash is way too short to reflect over such a long exposure, so Irie's explanation is out.

The camera dragged the shutter and fired the flash at the end of a long exposure. Short shutter speds expose for ambient light, hence the goldish color, and then the flash illuminated the whole scene.

I agree with Sebatian. I think you've achieved what's called a "Rear Curtain" effect, where the first portion of a long exposure caputred light reflecting off the glass and trailing along with the motion, and then the flash illuminated and captured and "froze" the whole glass and the person at the end of the exposure.

    It's either that or ectoplasm.

    Talking

Thank you Irie Times , Brian , Sebastian and James for looking and your input .
I did not notice the flash until i opened the photo . And i couldn't understand how that reflextion managed to be captured on the camera !

I also have to agree with Sebastian , it looks like the more logical explanation.

Ectoplasm - think i must hire a few ghosts to special effects for me

    Thanks to you all !

    Greetings
