    Smile Costa Rica

Ok this picture was actualy taken with a disposable camera when I was 15. I was in Costa Rica and thought this would be the perfect picture. The only thing I changed was turning the picture from color to black and white. Unfortunatly I dont see anymore Trips to Costa Rica so I hope everyone enjoys this picture as much as I enjoyed taking it

I think it looks pretty good. I wish the person was a little closer. You need to level the horiozon.

Can I level the horizon without retaking the picture?

    Re: Costa Rica

I knew someone was going to say straighten the horizon - why ?
What is the need for it ...
Didn't you ever tilt your head as a kid just to look at things from a different angle?

Certainly it can be edited to rotate the picture to the right. That's also going to mean cropping the edges too. I think that's going to take too much off the left in front of the wave, also take off the sky above the tree on the left.

I like it as it is, and would leave it alone.
I've tried rotating it and the impression of the sea coming into the land is lost.

Oh well, you can't be 15 again.

In spite of the focus and horizon issues it is a nicely moody image that really gives a feel for the place. Not bad at all.
    No, I DON'T need that.

    Re: Costa Rica

Looking over the image, I don't think anything is sharp.
I guess it's a little camera movement, or maybe just an unsharp plastic lens.
But look at holga pictures, or the lensbaby for a Canon 1D
It doesn't have to be perfect !

I still like it, for the image as a whole, not for sharpness, or straightness.

Definitely a moody shot. Perhaps the disposable inadvertently caused that with it's imperfect lens. Nice shot

I think that's part of the fun of shooting with these cameras, like Holgas, you're not quite sure what you're going to get.

    Re: Costa Rica

Holga is a cheap plastic camera.
Designed to take 120 roll film, so a huge neagative (or slide) but with a plastic lens.
So the focus can be hit and miss, as can the sweet spot of the best definition hitting your subject.
Oh and the light leaks from the joints in the body, they're part of the charm too.
That or wrap it in gaffer tape.

We have some holga masters here.
If you search for Holga using the menu option above the thread, or in the Gallery, you'll find some good examples.

Sounds like the camera my uncle gave me when i was 11. cheapo hard plastic with the Lion King on the front of it. i never figured out how to use the camera ie how to load it. but i still had fun with it. it became a great prop for dress up.
