    The corridor

I managed to grab a few exposures from the corridor here. This is up the stairs visible in the doorway of the last shot "the way inside" and immediately facing left after entering.
Much more run down than I was hoping for, but I think its interesting in its extreme dilapidation.
    Any suggestions? Thanks

scary place to be shooting...looks like anytime it's gonna fall apart.

you are one passionate photographer... anything for a good shoot. ;)

this is more interesting to me than the other one you posted.

i am drawn to the depth of the corridor and the thinks happening on the floor and ceiling.

makes you want to walk more deep into the corridor out of curiosity

No suggestions Gary. Oh alright then. I would suggest that the exposure here is perfect as there seems to be some extremes of light along the way. I often associate extreme dilapidation and decay with beauty and and I can do so with this picture.
I'm imagining you falling through the floor, alone in this place and I am also reminded of Greg's misfortune. I prefer to photograph on my own and sometimes think what if something goes wrong?
I'm relieved you came out of this place in one piece. You must have had one big fright.

Thanks Phil, as are yourself. I was disappointed and at the same time intrigued and could not leave well enough alone. I did want to capture that depth and used the wide angle but was also worried that it would become too busy with all thats going on in terms of destruction.

Yes, I was thinking of Greg and coming to terms with the realities of the dangers in our venturing. I too have always preferred to go alone...

As for your suggestion did you mean to say that the exposure is not ideal? I know there are bright areas around but no blowout on the histogram. I think the pieces of plaster and rock that are practically pure white tend to appear blown, or perhaps my contrast is just too hard.
    Thanks for the time

    Re: The corridor

Goodness no there is nothing blown out; my point being that the bright areas along the corridor are all held. Hence the perfect exposure comment.
    Sorry about my phrasing Gary.

    Re: The corridor

Before I read the other comments this is what first strikes me. It's quite light which for me takes away some mystique. I'd have liked to maybe see more shadows. Not that you can do much about it but the pipe that runs from the ceiling to the floor through the picture for some reason distracts me. Need to be careful in a place like this that's for sure... I'm not sure you are much for HDR at least I can't remember seeing you use this technique, but this might enhance some of the detail of which there is so much of.

    Re: The corridor

Gosh! When you posted your original picture I wondered how it could be so bad that you would fall through the floor. Now I understand!

I have never been in somewhere as obviously dangerous as that but, on one trip to Italy, I blundered across a march by a group of neo-nazis. Before I knew it I was among them, snapping away. It wasn't until afterwards that I realised that it could have been very risky. I guess that with we photographers, the picture sometimes over-rides common sense!

Damn, sorry to hear it. Yes, its def wise to go with another when venturing into dangerous territories, although i know many of us enjoy the freedom and creative advantages of doing these things solo.

    Re: The corridor

Liban, Armando, Peter, Mike and Roger, thanks for the time to comment.

Peter, I felt the same way about the mood and lighting in this place and had wished it were darker and more mysterious but I thought that the extreme dilapidation was at least interesting enough in its own right.

    Thanks all.

    Re: The corridor

There's good and not so good in this shot Gary. I like the subject, depth and choice of B&W. But I find the mood lacking; it should be dark and verboten. I also feel that the symmetry, caused by centering it, makes it seem too perfect and hurts the shot. A perfect mess? Doesn't seem right. Finally, the tonality seems too consistent, like it's under fluorescent lights.

Can you go back and shoot? A different time of day may solve most of these issues.
