    Concert

Would like to get some critique on these shots.

These are all from the same show, I was on the frontline and had a 50mm and the kit lens.

    Hey N8 -

I think you did what you could do w/ the low light, but I find that you have to really pump up the ISO beyond where you would prefer, getting even more shutter speed (and maybe DOF) than you think is necessary, to ensure the people are sharp.

Does your camera have Auto ISO capability? That's where you set it, go to manual and pick the SS and aperture you want, and it automatically selects the correct ISO to get the correct exposure for that lighting situation. I used it for the first time while walking city streets at nighttime w/o a tripod - it's very efficient (just don't forget to turn it off afterward).

Anyway, I believe you have some pix here, but that you need some creative crops:

Bottom shot: I would crop out the negative space above and below them.

2nd from Bottom: I would crop from just below the guitar, which will draw the viewer's eyes to the part with more emotion and action (his pants aren't important, and the tennis shoes are a downer).

2nd from Top: Can you get it any sharper? It's very close. I would also crop some off above his head, and maybe consider another effect (not sure what..).

Top shot: crop off the left far enough so that the bright light is removed. Just the hands waving to the bands would look good!

    Hope this helps - G

    I'm n8.
The only critique I would have is to crop the tops on most of them. A really good series you have considering the setting. I think you really took advantage of what light you had, as well as the dark.
    mostly Nikon gear

Feel free to edit my images for critique, just let me know what you did.

    Re: Concert

    Thank you.

I forgot to mention that I use with a Sony Alpha 100. I never shoot or shot Auto( the camera cannot play with the triangle, i.e. Shutter Speed, Aperture and ISO). My maximum ISO is 1600, that is why I have to shoot almost always wide open.

About the crops... I do everything possible to not crop the photos. I wanted the space in this photos, I also have thighter shots.

2nd from bottom: What attracted me was his shadow, the way is is positioned in the wall, that is why I incorporated everything.
