    Comfort Motel

Converted to b & w, and added a border. This is the same place where I got "Room With A View". Is the border ok, or should it be thinner?

    Re: Comfort Motel

    John, the border is fine.
I like this especially the old sign indicating that this may be anything but comfortable. . .
My only suggestion here would be to open up the scene a bit more. I think it is cropped too tightly. some clouds or detail in the sky could help as well. If there is something else around nearby that could lend to the notion that this is NOt a comfortable place should be included. Such as a dead tree nearby or something else in poor condition.
Still, the photo is quite enjoyable.

$59.99 what a deal! Any vacancies?

I agree with Gary, nice shot.

    How can I be lost

I agree a better sky would help, but I love that sign.

    Re: Comfort Motel

Gary and Greg.....I would love to have had some clouds to throw in there, but unfortunately that day was just clear sky. I didn't like the fact that there were no elements to show the true nature of the place, as you pointed out Gary. I cropped it this way to eliminate some distraction on the left side of the shot. I did get a shot of the reverse part of the sign which simply said 'Motel', but when I straightened it, a part of the sign was clipped off, so I won't post it. It would have been nice to find some old motel furniture out in the parking lot, but it is what it is, I'm afraid. Thanks for your comments.

Tyson......PLENTY of vacancies. I do think that $59.95 would be over pricing the rooms, though.

Next opportunity I get, I'll stop here again.

I think a shot of just the sign at night would be better. To me the motel/house in the background isn't run down like the sign is and detracts from how weathered the sign is. If the sign isn't lit at night a long exposure to get some star trails in the background would be awesome.

That was a concern when I took this shot. I also felt a little more evidence of desolation would have helped. I'll be stopping here again. Thanks for the input.

    Re: Comfort Motel

Nice shot, John! I agree with the others. The lighting could be a little better and some clouds would be nice. For what you had to work with, I think you did great, and this is one of those shots that is more about the content than the technical details. My one suggestion would be this... You said that the sky was clear, right? I would use the channel mixer to bring down the blue levels and darken the sky to give it a more foreboding look. But, that's probably just a personal preference.

    Nice find!

I like the shot. But I always like old signs like this (matter of fact, I will put together an old signs collage one of these days). I think the border's ok. Funny how they still have the lights in the grass to illuminate the sign

Beautiful, spare photo of life on the road. Very poetic.
