    First shot is best. You manage to shoot backgrounds without subjects and make them interesting, somehow.

    That's because they're not backgrounds

    I agree the first is the best.
    #2 suffers from post processing I think, the leaves seem at about the limit of the sharpening and it looks way over processed.
    #3 needs a bit longer to grow (or die) into a more gold shade, it's a bit pale yet.

    I too like the first image a lot-the others really don't do anything for me.

    What I like are the subtle colors and of course all the verticals. I imagine with a little mist or fog this would look like a nice Japanese wood block print.

    Nicely done.

    # 1 works for me. It is oversharpened. Seems to have a nice feel about it though. Might be worth a revisit when there's snow on them.

    Sorry, but none of them have any character, atleast to me..
    They need a focal point of some sort..
