    CoastScene

I was walking a beach in N. Ca. and just took this image because it sort of grabbed me. I wanted to capture the enormity and yet calmness of the ocean that day. Taken with an R7 Elmarit-Macro-R 2.8 60mm at f8 125 slide film. (my apologies it isn't as crisp as it should be, I uploaded from a Canon MP80 scanner)

It does have the potential for a beautiful photo. You're right, though -- that scanner didn't help you any. More detail in those rocks would have helped, I think. I like the framing the rocks provide for the scene. I'm learning, but it seems as though the exposure is off. I'm guessing you were walking at noon or early afternoon and your camera metered off the bright water/sky and therefore under-exposed the rocks. Maybe someone more knowledgeable than I will comment.

As a guess I think you should have shot this one at 1/125 and F22 or F32. The composition is very good as is the selection of subject. If possible a trip back to reshoot would be worth while, especially if you could frame it in the early morning soft light with the sun at your back. Under those conditions I would use a wide angle lens slow shutter speed, and a small apeture, measuring the light on the face of the rocks and the water in the cove. Finally I would recommend bracketing the shot to insure proper exposure.

BTW I like your array of gear.

Now that it has become a digital image, it can be post-processed
