    Coastal view

Along the coastline at San Clemente beach in Orange County Ca. Probably taken at the wrong time of the day.. the contrast was a little too harsh and since it was facing south, almost into the sun. But when you're there, you're there.

Yes, the lighting is harsh and causing strong contrast, but it does not ruin this good composition. i like the image, and the perspective of the train tracks and the silhouettes of the birds add alot to this already attractive scene.

GB....can't complain about the composition, though. Nice job on that.

Now see! This is a D-Type image! I think the lighting works really well here. It's one of those winter type days where the low slung sun is simply blinding, so bright it makes you sneeze. And I love how you captured the textures of the ties, the gravels and the cliff sides. Great comp too. Yeah, this is right up my alley!! Don't know how that makes you feel but I really like it!

    Re: Coastal view

Thanks, D. I always have mixed feelings about silhouetted shots. This one is pretty close to that. This beach is magical in its own way and I really need to get over there about an hr before sunset and see how it looks.

John, Gary -Composition is always one of my biggest challenges and I doubt I'll ever master it, but it seems to work here. Maybe a train zipping by next time too? They come by all the time. The engineer would probably freak me being that close to the track though.

Btw no one noticed that I removed some sun flare from the top - I guess it was a good job!

I agree with you about the contrast, but like the other posters, I like this. Composition is great, I really like the bird silhouettes, and the colors are sill nice.

Absolutely! In the words of Moose Peterson, getting a less than perfect shot is better than not getting a shot at all.

    GB,

This is excellent as is - I really like the harshness of the photo which really depicts the harshness of the environment.

However why has the nearest gull got a nail in the back of its head? and is that a steam train on the horizon comming down the tracks?
