    Cloudy Skies

I was out today and the sky was just beautiful, everything was very pink. Here's a few cloud shots and also one of my car with a nice cloud reflection on the hood. All comments are welcome.

    Hello Darkrainfall,

Perhaps I am plain wrong but I think that I would have cropped the trees out of you your two sky pictures. Would it leads to an overly abstract result? Honnestly, I am not too sure about this but somehow, the trees distract me. The colors and the lightning that you have captured are very interesting though.

I like your third picture a lot. From the clever framing to the unusually pink glow in the sky. To me this one is a keeper. Beside, I'd like to say nice car! lol

    regards

    Seb

    Hey Darkrainfall,
Of the cloud shots, i like the middle one as it looks like huge billows of white smoke rising up over the trees. But my favorite shot here is the bottom one of your Toyota Celica. As Seb pointed out, the framing is good and the red/pinkish overcast adds a mood to it.
The top shot is ok but does not strike me as a stand out keeper.

    Seb,
I thought about cropping the trees out altoghether, but I thought that they were rather nice for framing. I think they could be cropped out in the first one and it would look better, but I kind of like them in the second one.

    Gary,
I probably agree with you on that top shot... I was so disappointed by it, because that was what first convinced me to stop. I was driving on the highway and I saw the clouds and the light, and it was just so beautiful... but I couldn't stop on the highway, and this was the best place I could find to take a few pics... but the trees really distracted from how pretty it was, and part of it was covered by the trees as well... *grrr.... It's always frustrating when you see something so beautiful, but it's there and then it's gone and you can't show anyone else what you've seen...

Thanks for the compliments on my car too... I have rather expensive hobbies- cars, cameras and computers... and I am completely in love with this car, I have a lot of pics of it... right now I'm saving to continue my modifications... (all engine mods, no body stuff) *smile*

Thanks for the comments guys, I appreciate you taking the time...

Ahh a car buff. cool. I usually see people dress up their cars on the outside, get them to look like their real fast, and they have nothing done under the hood. Or, I see these huge SUV's with giant aftermarket rims, but original brakes and rotors. Then wonder why their brakes always smell like there burning up. Glad to see your of a different breed. Your car may look stock, but blow the doors off everyone else.

I know the feeling... these sort of towering, billowy clouds can be really awe-inspiring when seen at dusk. I would say my initial reaction is to zoom in and forget the trees all together, but that's what I did and there doesn't seem to be a lot of response so it's quite possible I took the wrong approach / abstracted too much.

I actually rotated the frame quite a bit too to capture the most interesting intersections of the cloud banks, which is OK once you have no land reference in the frame.

Anyway I like the second one the best as the clouds take on a more dramatic appearance here. I also like the shape of the treeline here much more than the first shot. Almost has a cloud-like shape to it. You probably could've worked in some Curve-based contrast, otherwise everything is good - composition, sharpness, etc. The third one is OK but is less about the clouds than it is about the car IMO. You could interpret it either way though; that's just me.

*shhhhh.... don't say that... really, it's all about the ummm.... the clouds... you know I'm not even sure how my car ended up in this shot... really.... *smiles*

Thanks for the comments puckjunkey, I was disappointed by the less than stellar pics from that night, but thought I'd at least post a few for critique. I'll have to go search for your cloud pics as I may have missed them... I've been a bit busy lately.
