    Cloudy Easter Sunday

Driving away from church in slow moving traffic. I felt like shooting the palm trees against the cloudy sky. I went down to -1 exp compensation only to be disappointed when I got home. It was way underexposed. Darn....

So I used PS to manipulate the brightness and contrast after converting to BW which I intended to do.

    Canon EOS Digital Rebel
    50mm f/1.8 the $70 lens =)
    1/1000 f/9.0
    100 ISO
    Exposure Comp -1

Cropping, brightness and contrast done in PS.

    Opinions?

    Similar shot horizontal....

    Canon DREBEL
    50mm f/1.8
    1/1000 f/8.0
    ISO 100
    Exp comp @ -1

Converted to BW in PS with bump in brightness and contrast.

Hope it doesn't look too dark on the website.

I much prefer the vertical crop IMO. It adds to the balance of the trees and creates that true sense of simplicty. I love this shot...very unique and original. The silhouetted trees is a great touch, though they seem to get a little sketchy at the base of the branches...a little overwhelming and almost just appears as a black "blob" with the such highly contrasted black and white.

Other than that, I love the shot. Great shot.

I'm with Jared on the vertical shot, and I just like that it goes from dark, to light, to dark again, and that the palms are sandwiched in the middle. It balances it out IMO, and it gives the sky some interest. I like it alot.

Very cool shot...I love silhouettes. I'm more partial to the vertical shot as well, but I would crop off about a half inch of the top of it...it's better balanced that way for me.

Vertical is best. Do I see faces of the muppet characters in the three trees?

You do? Which muppets? Scooter or Rowlf? LOL....

Thank for everyone's opinion. I like the vertical shot as well. I would liked it even more if I could taken it at an angle which let the palm trees stretch out to the upper half of the picture. I was driving though so movement was limited.
