    Clothes line

I was taken by this scene with all the lines running back and forth and the clothes hanging there way above.
Looks good in b&w, but I somehow liked the colorful clothes against the bue sky
    What do you think?

    Re: Clothes line

I like the concept of the scene Gary, and I love the contrast of the clothes against the sky. The clothes on the line seem a bit small in the frame though. I also don't think the lower bits of building at the bottom of the frame really lend much to the scene. If this were a black and white I can see how they would add interest, texture and contrast. But since it is color I don't want to go digging for the interesting bit quite so much. I'd crop to remove the rooftop and buildings and leave nothing but clothes wires and blue sky or at least use the furthest roof line as the bottom. Good looking out!

    Re: Clothes line

I like it Gary. I like the way the clothes go from the smallest to the largest. The lines work well in the shot and I agree, without seeing the B&W one that colr works too. You might think about cloning the one line that cuts throught the clothes but nice work.

    Re: Clothes line

Very enjoyable and happy image Gary. I feel the inclusion of the shutters at the bottom may be a bit unnecessary. Therefore I think a crop from the bottom here, leaving the rooftops and a little of the white concrete/timber fascia, would benefit the overall.

    Re: Clothes line

Cindy, thanks for the great response. I included the buildngs at the bottom because it was part of what had me stop and look at this scene. the clothes so high up, almost on a circus tight wire with the gritty building below and the string of electrical wires all about. I do see your point here in that it appears to be un needed here and has us looking for the interest.
I think as you say the b&w works with the inclusion of the buildings better, but I do prefer having the color.
Thanks, a crop will be in order.

Greg, thanks for your comments. I am pleased you notice the layout of the laundry from small to large. I thought that was petty neat, and would imagine that the owner cannot see that from his/her perspective as we can here.

Tom, thanks. After reading Cindy's comments, I thought of exactly the same crop you have. I will crop this to an 8x10 ratio and lose the bottom leaving just a sliver of the rooftops above white area.
This is really not my kind of shot, whatever that means. I was walking to a camera club meeting of which I had been invited to join and had my gear with me when i happened upon this scene and had to take it. glad I did
    Thanks, Tom

    The cropped version is great.
That camera club, or any club, would be very lucky to have you as a member.

    Hi Gary,
i like the cropped version better. I agree with Tom that the photo delivers a feeling of happiness. The blue sky is very appropriate for the background.

    Re: Clothes line

    Gary,

Cropped or not, as it loaded I knew I had to add my two cents worth!

The impact of the dark lines against the bright color with the clothes first made me think of semaphores. In other words a signal or a message!

The building top does give the photograph an internal frame/base which after looking at this for a few I believe completes the image.

Well done for a 'quick' and in passing photograph.

    Re: Clothes line

Always did want one of them there electrical clothes dryers.

Nothing like a line of clothes to add some needed humanity to a scene. I'm glad you didn't catch any of the building on the right.

    Re: Clothes line

I like the cropped version better as well. It's not often you can make power lines work.

    Re: Clothes line

drg, Chunk, and Greg thanks for the comments. These lines do stand out stark against a vivid blue sky. Here in Brooklyn, we seem to live under a huge tangle of lines, be it clothes lines, telephone wires, cable lines electrical power and now Verizons new FIOS Fiber optic cables.
Greg, funny about making the lines work, I think a bit of a series on all this tangle is something I'm going to get to.
    Thanks
