    Closeup of a Lotus

Went to a car show on the weekend, this was a Lotus (forget the model) but it was relatively cheap at $58 000 compared to some of the other vehicles in the same section. Does this work for you guys? I love the color, and for some reason, though I"m usually an anti-tight crop type of guy, I like this.

    Do you?

Cool shot. Looks like a science fiction alien backdrop.

Maybe nicer if a bit brighter with a bit more contrast.

This is either the Lotus Elise or the Lotus Exige depending on the top:

Shame about the lattice/girder showing in the skylight reflection.

Not an exige S, doesn't have the fasteners in the secitons under the wiper.
Same for the Elise 111R for the same reason.
Exige Sport R has double beam in the bonnet, not single.
Early Elise has a very different set of lights.
Looks like 2001 to 2005 Elise

Whether anyone likes it or not is irrelevant. Your shot made shapes and texture the main subject of the photo but then you destroyed those shapes by making them incomplete through cropping that was too tight. Lighting is also a problem in its uneveness and loss of detail as a result.

The Elise is a neat car. I've seen one on display somewhere with a sticker price under $40,000. It is said to be one fast little car (sub 5 second 60) and go-cart handling. Here's a write-up in MSN Autos: http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/ov...us&model=Elise

I like the photo. It seems to me like one of those that could be part of a three photo series, each with slightly different angles.

So, please explain in detail, photographically, why do you like it? Centre of interest? Subject? Lighting? Contrast? Effectiveness of conveying some message?
That is what critique is supposed to be about.

I actually like the varying light here. Some of the shapes being incomplete bother me, but some dont. However, I keep coming back to it so it must hold some interest for me, just can't put my finger on it yet.

Ah, yes. It's a bit like the old Budweiser beer posters in vougue a while back. They featured a nice-looking model in a swimsuit modeled after the beer label with the caption that said: "I don't know what art is, but I know what I like."

So for me, the first question I ask myself is: "Do I like it?" Well yes I do, I might answer myself.

"Why do I like it?" asks my first self of my second self. 'Cause it's different, I might say, causing us to look differently at the car and focus on the parts of the car that are different than any other, like that scalloped grill. I might also say that I like the color. I find it pleasing and almost a saffron of a monk's robe that puts me in a peaceful state of mind. I like the contrast of the orange/yellow and the black. I like the contrast of the glossy and matte surfaces in what can only be a car even though we don't see enough of it to know it's a car.

    Re: Closeup of a Lotus

Wow guys, thanks for the feedback! I believe it would be a 2005/2006 vehicle (possibly 2007) as it was a display for Lotus "The new generation vehicle." Interesting read on the the car review, and I'm guessing the price difference would be related to the USD/CAD dollars.

Thanks for the words guys! I appreicate them!
