    Cliffs and Water

Shot these this evening. Maybe too much contrast.. Don't know. Combined them into one shot, just for an artistic expt.....

Very dark on my monitor. Very little detail in the rocks on the left and none at the bottom. - TF

Nice series GB1, like the added touch of the bird happening by. I'm fine with the loss of detail in the rocks, my focus is a straight line top to bottom in the middle with the spray. S

This shot has a lot of potential, the light is very dramatic. I see HDR or exposure blending helping quite a bit with this one. I did a quick edit with LR and photomatix and came up with this. I am not completely happy with it yet, but you get the idea with the quick edit. It got quite noisy because I only had a small .jpg to work with. I think this could be quite a fine HDR with a large RAW file to work with.

Not so sure about the first shot, due to the placement of the bird, but the other two are very dramatic, like them both as is.

    Re: Cliffs and Water

Hey, Thanks everyone! I have mixed feelings on this shot... I did use a polarizer which tends to increase contrast and make a shot look more dramatic, but it's a double edged sword sometimes because that can reduce detail in the shaded areas - often down to nothing. Jet, Shootme, I guess you're on the other side of the fence.

EOS, I like your edit though it is definitely starting to lean towards the surreal, or "HDR", look. Not sure if it's good or bad here, just different. Anyway, if you ever wanted to try on the original JPEG image (I didn't shoot RAW on this one .. maybe I should have?) let me know.

As a sidenote, I was supposed to do a model shoot yesterday at this local, but the model flaked

I always shoot RAW, just in case. I always find myself doing some post processing and on the rare occasion I do shoot in .jpg almost invariably wish I'd shot RAW. I never set up a custom white balance but always correct the WB in post. That alone is a reason enough for me to shoot RAW. Send me the full .jpg via a PM, I'll give it a better whack, I already have some ideas on what I'd like to change from my quickie edit.
