Cleaning up some Cherry Blossom trash.

I was reviewing the years old stuff on my way to deleting a bunch of files. I got to thinking that these may not be trash after all......

    What do you think?

    Same photo, 2 crops.

Are you kidding me!!? You call these trash? No wonder I can't get a POD. My stuff is crap compared to this.

This/these photos are simply spectacular. I prefer the top image but both are very print-hang worthy. The composition in both is pleasing to the eye; the colors are perfect. My only comment from a personal preference perspective is I wish I could see the entire Washington Monument in the reflection, not broken up by the tree branch. But, hey, that is hardly worth mentioning. I hope you are pleased with these. I would be thrilled.

    Very nice job.

I think the top two depend what you want to highlight. The second one, for me at least, draws me towards the monument alot more ( i think its cause the plane trail, and reflection are more prominent) but the first one highlights the trees and colors in the sunrise more.

Re: Cleaning up some Cherry Blossom trash.

really like the first 2. the second one although really nice, doesn't have that thing that the first two do. and i don't necessarily mean the monument.

anyway, as i was scrolling down from pitcure one to picture i obviously cut off some of the top of the shot.

    i really like it...

great cherry blossoms but more of the monument as the centre of attraction.

(sorry i don't know the photographical technical terms :blush2: )

    subject maybe... ??

anyway, try scrolling down some until the top most part of the image is leaving the shot, and it has some nice branches with some cherry blossom but the monument is front'n'centre.

    not very technically descriptive.......

    MB,

I'm with CF on these. If these are trash then can I go through the rest of your trash and claim some for myself ? No offense intended but this is why I am always embarrassed to post shots after you.

The first two are really very nice regardless of the crop. Good color and clarity, but I'm wondering if there's a slight tilt?

Re: Cleaning up some Cherry Blossom trash.

I like the first one better. Same shot with different crop isn't it? I would crop that notch on the right but the only thing I don't like is the contrail and wish it were a natural cloud.
I like the soft colors and that the blossoms don't overwhelm everything else.

Re: Cleaning up some Cherry Blossom trash.

Very nice I like the first shot better than the second, I wish there was a hair more exposure at the top of the photo of the branch. Probably couldn't get it w/o blowing the highlights . The second one, I think a crop, doesn't look quite right to me.

The third photo you posted wow that's the best of all to me.I think the photos look a hair on the viivid side but that's just me, I think just my preference. I notice most people like more vivid than I do, and what do I know. Would they also need a lens correction for distortion or to straighten the horizon a bit? I don't know.

If you live in Washington and enjoy the cherry blossom trees, I hope you get a chance to visit japan sometime when they're in season or near, you'll go crazy.

    thanks for sharing those.

I post some stuff here, you post some stuff here. We think and talk about them, we all learn something. My photos aren't better or worse than anyone elses, just different.

There is no secret to what I do; go to a great outdoor site with a fantastic backdrop and only shoot when the light is the absolute best. Repeat often-sooner or later something good is bound to happen. My photo issues are more about getting a good composition than getting good scenery or light and I still have plenty to learn.
    No, I DON'T need that.

    uh, huh...., right.

I would be very disappointed if I ever walked into your house and the first photo wasn't hanging. Nice and big. Brushed metal frame. This is something to be shared. Again, very nice job.

P.S. I logged on this morning for the singular purpose to see if you got a POD for these shots. You was robbed, that's all I can say. You was robbed.

I like shot #2 a lot. The only drawback is the jet trails. It may be worth the effort to try to PS those out. My favorite, would be the third shot.

The flowers in the foreground seem to be a bit too bright to me. I'd like to see them a touch darker (unless those were lit up by whatever lighting in there that you had no control of). But then, you wanted to show the flowers ....:-)

Those are pretty nice trash MB. I would like to see a little more even fill light on the blossoms in the foreground, they are a little too bright toward the middle and a little too dark near the top. The contrail bothers me too. But overall very nice mood and light, good shots.

I think I like the second shot more. The monument is bigger and I like the positioning. Nice job (again).

MB - Good, but there seems to be something off about the foreground. Missing a park bench or something like that.

Ok..with number 1, which i prefer, theres too much water. And that little sliver of concrete on the bottom needs to be cropped out. Is it the curve of the lake that makes it look slanted to the left? Maybe just optical illusion. I know how regimented you are about centered horizons...and subjects. Maybe a bottom crop would help this? Would a slight fill flash work here on the tree. Otherwise it has a nice color scheme and good pic!
Please ask to edit photos and I'll do the same!

Right, the Tidal Basin has a curved shoreline so there are no straight edges to reference from so I try to get the Washington Monument mostly vertical. These images were just a fill flash experiment while I was waiting for the sun to illuminate the Tidal Basin as in the third image.
    No, I DON'T need that.

    If you really want it......

This one actually sells fairly well.

BTW on the Tidal Basin they rent 2 person pedal boats which we see here.

    I like your trash.

    It's humbling.

    a few questions:

Were they all done with tripod?
    What time of day?

    Thanks.

I like the cropped version BTW, FWIW.

Agreed, I know I am new to the dSLR thing, but I did take a photography class in HS, and I used to play with my mom's old Nikon 35mm film SLR, and the photos MB1 gets are enough to make you cry. FWIW, I like the first pic best...I think the water, and the colors from the sun really help to set the scene with the monument....Makes me think another beautiful day in the US of A. Not that it is, but it momentarily makes me think that....
