    Yes it works .. the slight diagonal in his posture is better than straight on and the flag/soldiers in the background set the context nicely without being too obtrusive. I am not so sure the 'smithy' part is very clear - he could almost be cooking on a bbq, but in terms of a reenactment portrait it's pretty solid.

    Yes I think it works very well. I love the placement of the flag.
