hi,just got my first dslr a nikon d50, and really starting to get the hang of things, so i'm posting a city scape shot in hopes i could get advise in any things i might of missed during the thinking process, definetly a far cry from my point and shoot.

Did you use the d50 for the shots in viewfinder? I think its about as good as can be considering the lighting conditions, Maybe a bit overexposed?
The pros around here will be able to answer better

The thing that bothers me here are the two pine trees on each side. Without the pine on the right, the tree in the bg would add alot to the scene.
I think framing up the scene in a vertical format with just the one pine in the left side of the frame and the buildings in the bg with no other tree would be stronger.
Congrats on the D50 and i'm looking forward to more shots from you with this gear.

i see your point and your right,i guess with the two pine tree's it looks too touristy like,if i had turned the camera sideways i could of just grabbed the one pine tree and eliminated the hanging branches and still achieved the tall city buildings in the background,who would of thought that taking a ordinary shot entailed so much thought,when i drove by i thought to myself that would make a great image,thinking like a tourist and not a photographer,thanks for pointing that out to me, i did on camera under exposed by -.7 if i'm not mistaken, the sun and snow really play a number on the highlights.
