    Cicada

A dying cicada made an appearance in my backyard a couple of weeks ago. I quickly grabbed my tripod, 50mm macro and extension tube. This was the best I could come up with. I think the focus should have been on the eye. Instead it is on the wing which is interesting but not as striking.

I agree, it would be improved if the focus was on the eye. Nice catch though, the wing is very cool looking.

What is it sitting on? I don't know how big Cicada's are.

I think it's a great angle and crop and nice background. Of course it would be better to be sharp, but under the circumstances.. Plus, you now know what works and can shoot the same scene again when one appears.

These guys are such interesting critters...........

    Re: Cicada

if you where using a tripod you should have bumped the f stop as high as it would go and should have been able to get most of it, if not ALL of the cicada in focus (assuming it wasn't moving since they sit still for long periods esp when dying)

i would have also rotated around so the background wasn't cut in half like it is.
