    Christmas vacation candids

Don't do the people thing too often, but wanted some feedback on these. They were shot on the fly (hence candid in the title).

    Fujifilm superia xtra 400
    210mm, f/4

    Both the same settings/film.

It was her first time close to a horse. Second shot is my cousin and grandmother sharing a moment.

    Re: Christmas vacation candids

They both are nice. Candid is the only way to go, at least for me. The color one is spot on all over. The colors and comp is fine. Good detail and dof. The only thing that might make it better was if the bg was blurred a little more.

The b/w is very nice; you really can see the emotions there and the caring for the elder family. My only real gripe is that I would have rather seen some of the top go so that all of their feet could have been included. The focus seems a little soft, also. All in all, both very nice pics.

I think that both pictures have an emotional impact, especially the b&w one were the complicity betwen the girl and her grandma is obvious. I'd prefer the first picture with the horse head uncroped and I'd say that the lighting is rather harsh in both picture. Nevertheless, you you have captured your subjects in a very lively way. You are up to something here.

    Re: Christmas vacation candids

Thanks guys. Seb, yeah the light was HORRID, at around noon. We stopped in an "alpine" village in the mountains for lunch, and I REALLY wanted these moments.

One thing tough for me is the 95% viewfinder coverage of my film camera. I either crop things, or tend to get too much. Hopefully that will be resolved with a little more practice. 8 months and 6 cameras, in retrospect is no way to learn.

Points taken and very much appreciated, thanks again guys.
