    Chameleon

Went to a reptile show today in Chicago. I took a handful of interesting shots with my 70-300 Sigma Macro lens. It sucked having to work with f 5 for the widest aperture in terms of lighting so ISO 1600 on this one ...what do you think?

I like the background colours in contrast to the colours of the chameleon (very apt that these should align given that this is a chameleon!) and I think that the pose is an interesting one. Sadly it just isn't sharp enough which is clearly a result of shooting at such a high iso. Although blurred there are still some great details that you have managed to capture.

cool colors...just not sharp enough? Eyeball needs to POP in focus and this would be great!

Even at the resolution used to post here, I think there is some scope to work with the sharpening and a tad more contrast to enhance the textures.

Isn't it a cool thing in nature that the colours never seem to clash...

    Re: Chameleon

Congrats on getting the shot that you did under the circumstances Llewpics. I have a macro (Tamron 90mm 2.8) and I know how shallow that DOF can be at close range. You really have to use f 11.0 or deeper, but that means a relatively slow shutter that you often can't get away with. All this stuff makes macros challenging.

Anyway - I like your pic, but think that the pretty burnt-orange colored background steals some attention from the critter. I like the grey color better in that respect. But the thing that really hurts here is that his eye and nose are not sharp. This marks down the image considerably (A- to C+ maybe .. ). Can you sharpen them up in post?
