I love these guys! We get them in London too - and most are very talented. I don't know if some are art students trying to make a little money, but some of the stuff they do is very impressive. Good capture.

Nice work GB, another good one. With the guys clothes and haircut this certainly looks as though it could be an older shot. I like it.

    Re: Chalker

From a purely technical/compositional standpoint, I'm eh on this photo. I would say (again from a technical/compositional standpoint) crop the top of the image off a bit, end the image at the top of the chalk work.

HOWEVER the world is not always a technical place, when judging this image a whole, I love it the way that it is. It tells a story of a very talented artist, working on an amazing piece. It focuses on this piece of art and this artist, but shows us a bit of his tools (without the tools taking over the image) and that there are other similar pieces of art near by (again without detracting from the primary piece of art).

So from a journalistic standpoint (which does incorporate composition, but not just in the traditional sense), this image really works.

Do not take this the wrong way, but the art work within the photo is more impressive than the photo. I do actually mean that as a compliment to the photo, if that makes any sense.
Please ask before editing my photos, I'll say yes

I like to take the pictures...

Dumpy - I know what you mean, I think it is good if the photographer can 'get out of the way' and only capture the subject. I do have a few other angles of this scene, but haven't scanned them yet. I chose this one to scan first because it shows the art the best (though he does seem to block some of it). Shot with a 35mm focal length (on film camera), I wish I had used my 24mm and really gotten an encompassing view! With that I think I could have composed a little better (gotten everything I wanted in there, without any compromises). But it does tell a bit of a story the way it is. Thanks for the interesting viewpoint.

Greg, shot in 2008 in progressive ol southern California - maybe he wears his old clothes so that he doesn't dirty up his new ones?

StormGirl - Glad ya like it.

Mike - We don't get a whole lot of them here, just at special, artsy events. Seems in London with all that rain that it might be tough on these guys. But when there's a will .. Hey take some shots too and post them. Some artists get snippy when you take pictures of their work, which I find somewhere between paranoid and desperate: this guy was pretty friendly (so was another), makes it easier.
