    The Chair of Pain

Any thoughts on the clearly over-processed image? - Terry

    Hello Terry:

    It is interestingly cool...

    I like the effects...

Generally speaking, "Not the most favorite chair in the house..." :cryin:

What gear did you use for this capture..?

    Thanks for sharing,

    Have a nice day...

I think you nailed it with "over processed." I would have chosen a different lighting mode if this was done in photomatix. HDR is certainly based on preference, and it's clear you weren't going for photorealism here, which is certainly ok. I think I would like to see it darkened up a bit...maybe make it a bit more moody, as it also seems a bit flat.
I played around with it a bit using some detail enhancement by adding an inverted surface blur and saturating/darkening the yellows in the hue/saturation panel of cs6

p.s. It looks like I lost some IQ when reupping the image.

A good illustration to start a thriller novel

My only suggestion is to add bit more contrast by increasing the blacks

Intensive Post here Terry. It's not that I don't like it, but I do think it may work better w/ another subject: perhaps a more sterile/clean environment like a hospital hallway. or even a spaceship prop.

I want to see this scene in the dark with only a few offset lights baring illuminating it, making it seem sinister (sorry Matt! ).

There is a Norman Rockwell type of quality to this, which I like. Perhaps a little too many mid-tones for my flavor ...I would like to see some more blacks. Also, I am not sure how I feel about the corner in the upper left and the Dr's bag at the left side edge ....otherwise, very nice.

    Re: The Chair of Pain

    Thanks for all the comments.

    Captured with the Sony A-900 (FF) with a 17-35 at 17mm. 1.3 sec+ at f/8. Multi-image HDR/tonemapping with Photomatix.

The blacks would certainly move it more towards the sinister, but I often find the 'sterile' to be even more frightening.

Agree that the edges would need cleaning up for a competition image.

    Again, thanks all.

Helluva title. Striking image. The colors do convey a creepy LSD tinged feel.
