    Cemetary

A couple shots from the St. Marx cemetary where Mozart is buried somewhere. Rather creepy overgrown/almost clausterphobic cemetary.

    Re: Cemetary

I think these are both very good. The second image could use a little more detail in the darkest areas, but still the mood and emotion is there in both images. The compositions are good, and the hazy atmosphere brings the eerie effect that goes well with the scenes.I'm wondering if the first one was conveted to b&w if it would be more effective. I'm not certain, but it may be worth a go.
    Nice works, thanks for showing

    Re: Cemetary

I like the idea and I think both compositions are fairly good.

In the first image I'm thinking it might be better (or not but worth checking) with either less sky or less foreground.

In the second image I want more detail in the foreground. Now it may be that in your monitor or when you print this there is lots of foreground detail but I just can't see it in my fairly well calibrated monitor.

    Nice stuff here.
    No, I DON'T need that.

    Re: Cemetary

Thanks, I tried converting the first one to black and white but didnt really like it. Ill try to post up one and see what you guys think though.

I agree that more detail in the second one would be much better but whenever I tried to bring that out I washed out the light on the cross, think I almost got it this time though.

    Thanks again.

Tossed one more in, not necessarily for critique but like it, trying to keep the number of photos low.

    Re: Cemetary

I agree that these are both heavy with mood and that really works with cemetery pictures, sunny ones just aren't as interesting. Did you use a soft filter intentionally or was this a case of lens fog up? I think it is good use of the misty look regardless, exactly what a cemetery should look like. I think a black and white conversion to your first image might be very interesting and definitely worth a try. The second would be so much more interesting with some detail in the shadows but I like the way you filled the frame. I get the feeling these were shot on film, is that so? Thanks for sharing these interesting pictures.

BTW, I thought Mozart was buried in a potter's field; is that why you said 'somewhere around here', because it is unmarked or do they have a memorial stone?

    Re: Cemetary

your second image is certainly an improvement with the bit more detail and light you squeezed out of it. It helped make a decent shot that much better. I am not too good about the crop on the first image. MB1 is our "non official" master of the crop suggestions and usually I agree with him, but either this is not quite what he meant or I personally do not agree with this one. Either way, it still is a fine image.
Your third image put up is good as well, although i would like to see some better sharpness in the tree trunks on the right. Did you apply any sharpening to these before posting ? Might be just a simple matter of that.

    Re: Cemetary

Cannot add anything to the above but with my fascination of cemetary shots, I'd love to find such a place to shoot.

    Re: Cemetary

Thanks for looking/comments everyone. I might try to post up the rest of the series sometime soonish.

CL-I didnt have a filter but was fogging up my lens by blowing on it and then waiting until it had the effect I was hoping for. They were all shot on my digital point and shoot although I did start taking film shots again. As far I could gather, Mozart is buried in that cemetary but the exact location is unknown as he was buried in a common grave. They have a memorial where the best guess is. Someone else may know more about this?

Gahspidy-Think I might have to wait until I have better editing software to pull more of the detail out but happy with what I got out of it for now. Haha, I had started to notice that MB1 is the unofficial crop master which has definitely helped before. I couldnt decide if I liked the crop or not. Will try sharpening the third one a bit.

Frog-You would have loved this place then. I couldve spent much longer there but my brother was getting antsy, understandable since we had a train to catch. Highly recomend it to anyone if they get the chance.

    Re: Cemetary

I like these photos... fogginess creates that creepy mood that really fits. I think less sky (about an inch or so) in the first one would make it even better because then the eye would follow the path without getting distracted. I like the color one better than b&w.
