    The Cats Meow

I am just getting back into photography after a 4 year break and I just switched to digital. I'm loving my new Canon 40d.

I would appreciate feedback on the retouched images. I shot this in a pink room during the afternoon sun, and then adjusted to get a soft red/yellow hue. Is it too much?

Please let me know if the edited images are too contrasty. I altered them on my desktop with an old Sony Trinitron. When I viewed them on my laptop, they looked really bad. I reset the gamma on the monitor last week. Since the edited images looked fine on the Trinitron, I'm guessing I may have to replace that monitor.

    Oh yeah...feel free to edit.

    Thanks,
    Kristin

Looking at the images on an iMac that's calibrated with Huey Pro, the top and center images have blow highlights in the white fur. Color cast isn't objectionable in either of them. Shadows plugged in the center image. Color cast is more noticeable in the lower image but the highlights aren't so bad. Questions: Are you shooting JPEG or RAW? What program are you using to edit the images?

Shooting both. All of these were made from highest quality S-JPG, and they all look fine on my Trinitron. The unedited image looks fine on both of my monitors and the edited images look great on the Trinitron, but overblown and too contrasted from my laptop.

I think the callibration must be way off on the Trinitron. I'll download all the junk I can about manually setting it and see if I can tweak it. My guess is that the monitor is going bad. Over the past 3-4 months, I've noticed its had a decidedly longer start-up time.

Oh, using PS 6. I was going to upgrade to CS, but if I have to buy a new monitor...

I prefer the original. Then it would be the second one.

Thanks...I'm going to recallibrate the monitor again, and if that doesn't work, I'll replace it. Once that's done, I'll retouch the image and post again. Thanks everyone for all the good feedback.

I think you only really need to worry about is that it looks good to you and if you print it out how the print looks, because even if you get it right that is not saying everybody elses will look the same so be thinking of that too. It sure is fun though learning about all this i bet
