    Cat Portraits

    Some shots of my cat.

Cloned out a tumor on forehead and may have adjusted levels a bit.

Also used a tissue to diffuse the flash, in all but the couch shot, may have helped with the green eye effect, or maybe the fact that she was looking away. Definately served to weaken the overpowering flash common to the powershot series.

The bottom three were taken in low light with flash, first was taken with no flash, with natural light, and did a rough clone of the couch to hide a distracting window n the background.

What is a good strategy to eliminate green eye effect in low light situations while hand holding the camera if I'm gonna have the cat looking at me. (fat chance of getting the cat to look at me eh?)

Your first shot, with the cat on the couch ( top) is excellent. the natural lighting is working very well to bring us the softness of the cats fur and the tranquility and mood of the moment. Also, the framing is very good as well. The other three are ok, but the flash seems a little obvious and they are just not on the same level as the first shot in every way.

    Starting from the top....

I like #1 and #3, the colors of these 2 look "correct" to me. I too wish that the cat was looking at the camera but what can you do......?

Of the 2 I like #3 works best for me because of the open eyes.

Good question, when my cat sees me grab the camera she vanishes now.....I guess she doesn't like her picture taken anymore

I make a raspberry or just about any strange noise will get my cat to look at me.

Problem with that is they give you the "what the heck" or the "stupid humans" look instead of the calm, content look like in my first shot.

#2 is incredible. the framing is great, and I don't seem the mind the ears chopped. I think the head in the upper right leading to the closer paws is an excellent composition, but the color is funy and yellowish. I'd either go sepia or b&w. a green/yellow cat isn't very flattering. actually, maybe even crop tighter on the top to get rid of that half-ear, and just get the face instead? it's a possibility. Mind if I edit it a bit?

Go right ahead, and thanks for the new sig quote

Years ago my family had a white dog, 35lbs, and one year, she was dyed green for St Patrick's day...well...as the dye washed out, she started turning yellow, no photoshop or special lighting tricks necessary.
