    Cascading Creek

My wife has been commenting that I'm only posting "weird" pictures and not pretty ones (she didn't like my pink & blue shot), so here's one that is probably a little more conventional. C&C welcomed as usual.

    Thanks,

    PC

Nicely composed. I'm not one for the soft water with slow shutter speed but that's personal preference and it looks like you did well with this one.

Frog, thanks for commenting. Based on the limited comments, I'm guessing that this is a little too boring for others as well. Oh well, on to other shots.

    Re: Cascading Creek

PC, I think you have a decent shot here. I really am liking the clarity, color and soft water flow from your shutter speed.
The one thing that bothers me most about this though is the big rock in the lower left corner. It has the effect of "blocking" the flow of water and creating a tension in this that i do not want to feel. I think you could remove it from this image if you feel the same.
One other thing . . .I have always heard that since most of us here read from left to right, the movement in a photograph should go along with that making a natural flow for our eyes. I never gave that much thought but feel it may hold some merit in this scene. In Photoshop or many other programs you can easily "flip' a picture around. then the creek would be flowing from left to right.
Overall I like this scene and it gives me a calming, peaceful feeling. The brown, green, and white colors are vibrant and yet tranquil in this beautiful spot.
I'm sorry I almost missed this one. Good work here.

    Gary,

Thank you very much for your comments. I appreciate your insight. I have some other shots of this same scene and will see if they're affected similarly. The flip is pretty easy. Would the big rock in the lower left still have the blocking effect if the image were flipped?

    Thanks again,

    PC

I'm not sure, because now that i look at this again the rock does not seem to bother me so much
the shot appeals to me even more the second time viewing it.

I like the shot a lot -- my first reaction was very positive. The colors and composition are very soothing. My eye is drawn to the cascading water, which I like a lot. The more I look at it though, I'm distracted by the blurry overhanging leaves. Once I've noticed them, it's hard for me to ignore them.

Very nice exposure...i think the 4 rocks give a nice border and almost hold your view in.

I think you did very well. I think a little wider shot would have helped. You have rocks clipped off left and right and all of the water flow is not in the shot. But the lighting and exposure are really good.

    All I know is----it's a lovely shot.

    Re: Cascading Creek

Thanks again for all the comments.

Greg, I also tried a wider shot, but there are still boulders getting clipped and the water wasn't as smooth.

plehmann, I too am distracted by the leaves. There was quite a breeze running through this little canyon. Coupled with the long exposure for the water gave me blurring on the leaves.

Here's another slightly different perspective, but I wasn't too sure about the big boulder in the middle. I worry that it makes it look too static. I also flipped it to give it the left-right orientation that Gary mentioned.

    Re: Cascading Creek

I like the second one better.
I don't think the left right thing makes that much difference as eyes will move from lower left to top right as well as they do from top left to lower right and perhaps a bit better.

I like both PC. I would use the word relaxing instead of boring, although I also enjoy your shots that are a little "different".

    Re: Cascading Creek

Personally, I liked the first shot better. The four rocks frame the shot perfectly imo. I think you nailed the lighting and exposure as well. The only thing I might like to see is the same shot from a slightly lower and more forward facing pov. I think that would solve some of the issues mentioned above. This is nitpicky though. I really love the shot, great work!
