humm... I'm not sure what your asking, but I can give you some general critques

#1 would look great if you had a different angle. I'm not saying the whole compostion is bad, but it just reminds me of reality ad because of the straight on effect. Your use of light as a creative device with the shadows is cool.

#2 gives you a "washed up to a empty island" look . but the lighting takes away from the picture and makes it look drab and unimportant. I tried to tweek it in PS... dunno how good i did

    Hi
I think both need a little work to bump up the impact, the first i would strighten a little and then run through Neat Image t reduce the noise factor.

The second is not helped by the the poor lighting, From this i would make this a bloack and white shot, high contrast and i might try a single pass with a noise filter to add a little! not the norm i know but i would be interested to see how they would turn out.

    just my 2cents worth :-)

I will try both suggestions tonight when I get home (at work waiting for batteries to charge....). Both photos were only resized to post.

With the lighthouse photo, I would leave in the trees framing the lighthouse but soften and brighten or completely take out the harsh shadows on either side.

The beach scene makes good use of thirds and diagonals but the centre of interest is really not strong enough to hold the eye and therefore to hold the picture together. Lighting is also is a problem. It is neither sufficiently bright, nor sufficiently brooding and dramatic. It is just a dull day. In that respect also, the clouds are not interesting enough to occupy as much of the frame as they do. You need something like a person in a brightly coloured jacket and a dog to make the beach photo more interesting.

I was going to say the same sorts of things re: photo 2...I think it's a "nice" picture...but that's it. However, with some of the suggestions you've gotten, you be able to do something with it.
With the lighthouse, I really like the contrast of the building with the sky...and I think you just need to straighten that one.
