    Cans in the Galley

This is a bit different in composition than my usual style of can series shots, and although at first I was not sure how I felt about it, I find that I like it aside from it not fitting my compositional format for this series ( actually, the " four under cover" was a different type comp as well)

    How do you feel about it? . . . . .

    Re: Cans in the Galley

Gary, the cans and the black thing (Coffe dispenser?) along with the slightly open door give the image a great depth. I feel as though it might be a reflection. I can see that the light border on the right comes towards me at th bottom, but it does not have the detail or depth that the rest of the image has. if you could add some contrast and sense of lighting i would like it more.

    Hi Gary,
The pic is very nostalgic. The desaturated colour works very well here.

    Re: Cans in the Galley

    Gary,

Another one I like - the one criticism I have ok there are two is the bottom right where the edge of the window is a little untidy and wonder if it would be better cropped? the other is the cans don't seem to come alive or stand out as they do in the other photos. (CAUTION - viewing through LCD - I always find the photos better on my home Monitor)

I really like the coffee grinder it could be a photo in its own right.

However after saying that I really do like this photo and the place looks excellent - where do you find these places?

    Re: Cans in the Galley

Interesting difference here, having colored cans scattered through out the shot. I think I'd rather see just the 3 cans on the bottom have color. A lot to hold the interst here. The broad white frame on the right (some kind of pass through window in the bulkhead?) is almost a distraction. I'm not sure what could be done with it though. The dark nail holes against the fairly large area of light tone grab the eye a bit - maybe lessen the contrast in that area?
Another nice addition to the series.

    Re: Cans in the Galley

Thanks Mark, Roger, Yoyo, and Chunk. Good suggestions and points brought up. I will crop the sill on the right a slight bit to lessen its presence some, and as Chunk suggested, i will lessen the contrast so the nail holes are not so dark and distracting. ( that was my fault as I had burned in areas of the sill to create some interest and did not think about the nail holes getting too deep.) Mark, I will be trying to get the lighting some more interest in the sill area to keep it interesting. Chunk, I agree with you also on the colors of the other cans. I think I will be taking more color away from the other cans and keeping the focus on the three up front. Thanks all.

    Gary,

Wonderful addition to your series. The desaturated colors are marvellous, and I love the 'old'/nostagila feeling coming through in this picture. The composition works for me, I'm just iffy on the window side. But overall, great choice of subjects!

    Loving the series,

    Jared

Gary, to me, this picture works straight like it is. I am not sure that it fits in the can series though. This shot is different from the rest of the series in various ways: it's shot inside, it's busier than the rest of the series (I don't mean this as a flaw but there is a lot to look at in the foreground/middleground which lead to a different effect), your color treatment is different.....

I think that it is a good photograph and I agree with the positive comments that others already shared but I get the feeling that it doesn't belong to your can series and that it could rather be the beginning of a different series.

Thanks for your thoughts on this Seb. Yeah, the composition here is very different from the rest of the series ( aside from the cans being left color) and I'm thinking if I get to do some different comps such as this, I might be able to expand or broaden the style of the series a bit. This still has a sort of surreal sense to it, I think, as does some of the others in the bunch( which is helped achieve by some elements in bg being visible but blurred) or as Mark noted it seems as if it couldf be a reflection.
After I put it all together, I'll see how I feel about it being just a can of color series or if composition and style should be consistent in the bunch as well.
