    Candids

My god, This Cherry Blossom thing has been extreme! Working 8 hours at night, and shooting 4+ hours right after then post work. All worth it though, published two times, two days in a row (local media must be getting desperate)!! Here's some candids from todays events. Third one is may fav (sepia toned and desaturated). LOL, I just noticed, the kid looks like Opie!!

Those are really cool! The last one is my favorite, even though I like them all. I'm a sucker for all things WWII.

    Payn,

Interesting shots. I like the last one, though I think you could really make the tones more saturated and really make them pop. The others don't do much for me, but aren't all that bad either.

    Interesting shots,

The third one is amazing in my opinion, I like the second one too, but the kid kinda takes me out of the picture. Plus I really like the crop on the third, its flawless.

    Re: Candids

Nice work, payn. I also agree that the third is the strongest. The Sepia tone is working well, the framing is right, the dof with the planes and props just detectable in the bg is strong in setting it up, and the pose and moment was right. Well done. The first shot I like, but there is one thing that is just wrong there. The subjects rear end looks huge because of the airplane wheel protruding from just behind him. Maybe it's just me as no one else seemed to mention it, but I find it to be enough to hurt the shot, unless you can dodge the wheel out so it looks faded and less like a part of the man.
    Good work here

    Re: Candids

    Thanks to both of you.

Gary, I did notice the wheel thing, and I was like wow he has a big butt when I first saw it.

The Sepia toned image is straight from the camera except converted to b&w and added sepia, then desaturated. No cropping at all, no sharpen.

Payn, I like that second shot a lot! You caught a nice moment and you made a nice contrast between the young kid and the older gentleman. I wish the lighlights on his head weren't so blown-out, but things happen. Overall a great effort. And congrats on being published!

    Re: Candids

Thanks for the kind words McMadCow! I like the second one as a look to the past and into the future. The kid deeply admired the older pilot, and it showed. I couldn't get a shot of interaction between them (25 photogs present, all shooting for different publications, companies, etc.).
