    Campfire

Here's a shot from a recent camping trip. It kind of reminded me of those old speaker adds .

    What do you think?

yeah... i was totally thinking maxell when i saw this. its an interesting shot. the fire has some nice qualities but its also blown out. and the crop on the guy in the chair doesnt add to much. but overall i like it.
I don't want it, I just need it...to breath ...to feel ...to know I'm alive.

Was it the Maxell ads? That sounds about right, but I couldn't remember for sure.

On the shot, I'll be the first to say that it's nothing special. You are right that the fire is blown out, but I'm not sure how to capture the darkness of the chair and background without blowing out the fire.

PC - The fire's shape is perfect. It does remind me of the Maxell ad (see

I'm not totally sure here but I think what bothers me a little is that the fellow is perfectly vertically centered. He sort of competes for attention here - not the subject, but just enough to distract my eye.

Hope you don't mind but I took a stab at desaturating a selected part of the photo to try to correct for that. Not sure how it turned out?

    Re: Campfire

    GB,

I do have a tendency to center things a little too much on the horizontal . If I had more time, I would rather have the guy and the fire composed a little better. As it was, I was sitting at a table next to them and snapped the picture before people walked in front of me.

I can see how desaturating the shot enhances the focus on the fire. I could probably also try darkening that side of the shot. Feel free to edit away!
