Wow, what depth. Just like a landscape should be. Clone the wart off of the Cactus. Great shot. My vote for a sticky. I feel I could almost walk into it. What camera and lens combo were you using.

Greg, thanks. Nice comment on the wart - did no think of it ...but easily done. This was taken at early dawn (around 7am, I think) north of Phoenix ...Nikon D7000, at 18mm - probably f8 or something ...can't remember (must look) - single shot.

Beautiful area. I love going out there. Just to nitpik, I'd suggest a little noise reduction on the sky. Although seeing that you're using a d7k, I don't know why there'd be much unless you really had to push the iso. Also, I think it could benefit from just a nudge in the blacks.

Yeah, that exif doesn't really support what I'm seeing. Maybe compression from uploading, or just my own insanity.

    Re: Camp At Dawn

The deal with this one to me is that it is just too light for the time of day.

I don't mind the "Wart" on the cactus as that is reality although it does point out that you really need to look before you shoot even in a place that is this pretty and doesn't have much in the way of distractions.
    No, I DON'T need that.

    Re: Camp At Dawn

I have been thinking about how to make it less light for the time of day. Not sure what everyone means by that. If you want to take a crack at it, be my guest. Here is another version I did, changing levels a little ...it darkened the image, but it also make it less "dreamy" in my opinion - it has more of a strong contrast to it ....

    Perhaps something like this:

I just found the original too bright for dawn.

But, you were there, I wasn't.

Greg captured my first reaction exactly. I prefer the exposure in your original pic over the darkened versions.

    Re: Camp At Dawn

All the edits are very good but I do prefer the original. It seems to have a surreal look to it. Almost a scene from a movie or something. I think the original offers more detail and clarity. It just goes to show you how many things can be done to a good shot and it still be a good shot.
The original is one you want to look at for more than a glance and see all of the detail. Really that's what it's all about. Keeping the viewers attention.
