No more camera buying allowed for me John, I was merely window shopping!

    Herriot.

I really like the tonal quaities you captured here. The arm to me adds a bit of movement to the photo and so does not realy bother me that much.

However the items behind the cameras at the left of the photo keep attracting my attention trying to figure out what they are, probably plastic bags.

The other thing is the bag which is blocking the view of a camera just creeping into the frame, so the left needs some work but not sure what.

The right of the photo to me looks fine.

    Re: Camera salesman

    Hi Herriot,

This is a nice scene alright, and glad you shared. I don't have any problem with the jumble of stuff behind the cameras myself, it doesn't distract me in anyway, however i agree with you on his arm. It is a bit of a pity in some ways, but not enough to warrant annoyance, it doesn't unbalance the picture in anyway.

I'm actually more distracted by the figure on the right. I think he takes away from the composition, and makes it look a little haphazard, or a less controlled photo. a crop might work...

otherwise a very good b+w, that captures the scene well

    cheers
    anew.

Thank you both for your comments, interesting to see the differences in opinion. I agree with the comments about the bags and as I already mentioned, the arm annoys me a bit. I wanted the figure on the right in the scene to help provide a sense of the bustle that was actually going on in the scene (there was little time to shoot as there was an almost solid line of legs passing by my lens!)

Thanks again for your comments, certainly given me something to think about for my next trip down there.

    Re: Camera salesman

I think it all works great together given what your subject matter is. It reminds me of the street vendors one might see in NYC or other large cities. That's why the plastic bags work for me. They don't exactly have a storage shed around for their inventories eh? The same with the partial view of the man. As with any busy city bustle, how often do you see much more of the people around you than what you are seeing right here? The arm doesn't bother me much, but I would have preferred to see the activity it was leading to (grabbing his smoke, handing someone some money, reaching for a camera, etc.)

    I think it's well done!

Very photojournalistic shot Harriot and it works for me arm or no arm.
