    The Calm Between (Edit Help)

    Downtime
    Flickr Page

2 layers, one brightened, one darkened, brightened layer blurred and opacity decreased. (Orton)

Also much crop, as I didnt have my telephoto conversion lens, but wanted to get closer to the boat.

Not sure I like the 3 sailboats and the ferry in the left of the frame.

There's the original crop in the gallery, only shrank it down 50% if you want to play with it a little.

Reshoot suggestions? (I can get twice as close with my telephoto conversion lens)

    Hi Mr Yuck,

I think the 3 sails are very important to this shot. Love their positioning with the sails on the outside point to different directions while the middle one is straight. The fairy isn't as noticeable and it doesn't take away from this shot either, IMO. I think the blur might a bit too much on the eyes though. I gave the crop a go, here's what I would do if I had to crop this shot.

I like that crop. Great suggestion to put more room on the left, and the main subject (the anchored boat) is still emphasized like I wanted it too.

And of course, Orton effect isnt for everyone or every scene, I think I like it better without.

I'm glad you liked it. I didn't know what that effect was called, thanks. I think the orton effect produces very dreamy photos. I'll have to play with that and see what happens.

I am going to say I like #1 as is... I dont feel having no space on the left really is an issue since the main subject is the boat in the foreground anyways... the moody look also adds to the image...

Personally, I like the blur on the first one - on the other hand I like the edit without the blur - different effect. I guess it's a matter of personal taste here. Both are nice photos IMO. I like anything that gives an image on or around water a look of "mystique."

    Nice shot btw.

No critique but welcome to Washington. You're in my old stomping grounds and I can almost bet from where this shot was taken.
