California Scenery - *first time poster*

I just started shooting maybe 2 months ago. Im a total beginner, I dont even know how to work all the features on my camera yet.

Quick question: Im looking into getting a tripod, I want something portable and light, but not too flemsy, if anyone has any recommendations please suggest one.

    on to the photos...

I was doing laundry around 7am when I noticed there was alot of fog on the hillside, So I figured I'd snap some pics of it so I ran and got my camera, and just as I took it out, the sun started to rise over the hills... perfect timing. I snapped pics for about 90 seconds before the moment was over. This is my favorite from the encounter.

The San Francisco Bay (taken from Emeryville) at sunset. Just one of those moments where I happened to be in the right place at the right time. The best thing about sunsets on the ocean, is they never look the same. I have alot of other pictures taken from this same spot, and none look the same.

hmmm, ill start by saying i do like both the pictures alot, but the first one maybe alittle too dark, as for the second one, id suggest cropping the bottom alitte so that its even, instead of having water and then a slanted beach, also id suggest maybe trying to get rid of the pole in the middle of the light area, you could try doing it in photo shop if you have it

overall i do like both pictures, its some nice shooting, cant wait to see more pictures from you, and as for the tri pod i cant help you out, but maybe try posting in the other fourm sections and see what people have to say

The first picture would be very nice if it did not have the power lines in it. Also, I think it would if you had a little more of the palm leaves in the picture (to show more of the tree's shape) it would add to the over-all appearance of the image.

The second picture I like a lot! I like the slant of the road/beach and highway sign (it lets me use my imagination... ie., driving down the coast). I hope you do not mind but I straightened the horizon a little and removed the light pole (it was very distracting)... I wouldn't have done it if I did not like the picture so much
