California Poppies Are In Bloom

You drive and drive and drive, then suddenly, turn the corner and WOW --- the orange poppies just take your breath away!




Its an amazing sight to see.

I am glad there are flowers blooming somewhere, we just got a foot of snow here! :cryin:

That is beautiful. The color in the foreground is great. I would frame this one to exclude the top 25% of the frame (furthest hills) because they are pretty drab compared to the rest of the frame. This would also bring the horizon line higher up in the frame.

The wildflowers are blooming everywhere as well and, that's the patches of yellow you can see on the mountains in the distance in the first picture.

Here's a shot to critique and comment on that show the yellow wildflowers with the poppies mixed in.

All very nice. I sort of feel that the last post with the individual flowers is the strongest, though I think that if the close up ones were in sharper focus that it would be a stronger photo. Blur can be fun too, but it's better if it's due to wind - looks less like a mistake or equipment limitation.

Where did you shoot these? I haven't been able to sneak away to the desert this season.

In Lancaster near the California Poppy Preserve, 15101 Lancaster Road Lancaster, CA. We never even made it inside the Preserve because all this was outside!
