    Calatrava

This is the lobby of the Milwaukee Art Museum designed by Santiago Calatrava.

What gorgeous architecture. I really like the framing on this EOS3. It looks like a wonderful place to roam around in not only for the exhibits but just being in the space. I think you have communicated it very effectively.

In a great line, shape and lighting photo, the people at the bottom are unfortunately a serious distraction and weakness in the photo.

    Re: Calatrava

I agree the people are distracting but otherwise an excellent job framing the picture. Nice work...

    Re: Calatrava

    How did I miss this??

This is one of the great pieces of work in the middle of North America, and I've been to most of them! The "ship on the lake" is a remarkable site and a wonderful photographic opportunity.

This is a very good photograph. Looks like one of those days where Salvatore's work was well highlighted by a blue sky. This is Calatrava's first work and best work (IMHO)in the United State's and I wonder if he will ever top it. I certainly hope there will be more opportunities for him to do just that.

By the way, Calatrava in his designs allows more for people to be in his works than almost any other modern architect. They look radically different with people! These grand halls and entryways don't really dwarf people as you might think. For a time I wanted see to the Milwaukee Art Museum extension (this building) empty, I finally did and was disappointed. It needs people. This is the deck of ship under sail (metaphorically of course) and it needs life!

EOSThree, I think you got it right !!

    Re: Calatrava

CD have you seen his bridge in Redding? I had the fortune to be there for work and had a free day to go to Turtle Bay. It was another clear blue day so photography was difficult as there is no "inside" to the bridge.

    Re: Calatrava

Since you showed some interest CD. Of course the first three are of the MAM from outside. The last two are of the Sundial Bridge in Redding, CA, the large spire tells the time in the middle of the day on a concrete semicircle to the north of the bridge. All I had while at the bridge was my S2 and no tripod(doh!), After I arrived, I really wanted a night shot of the bridge, the deck is greenish glass and is lit from the underside, the spire is lit from all sides, it's quite dramatic.

Wow, I really like the original and the others you posted. IMO the people are a welcome part of the photo showing the scale.

Excellent work. Including the people in the space built for them is in no way a detriment. I've been happy that I could include them in my own shots of that wonderful space.

This is one of my favorite buildings and you've captured its grandeur well. So far I've never tired of shooting it with new aspects always seeming to show up with each visit.

    Re: Calatrava

Nice, The lighting certainly adds drama. If I had that so close I would be out there quite a bit in early and late light. That's the only time I've ever seen it with the Burk Brise Soleil closed. I guess they close it at night except for special occasions. I wish I could have stayed all day, I was with friends from Chicago and we had to leave fairly early.

I detest a lot of modern architecture but this one is incredible in so that it is so soothing just to look at. And you have done it full justice.

    Re: Calatrava

Very nice shots. The view of the exterior is 'right with the light'.

I haven't seen the bridge in person, but know of it of course.

I keep suggesting a architectural trip for PR as an 'outing' to Milwaukee. There are other very scenic and rustic opportunities.

Thanks again EOS for sharing all of these!
