    Caged

Experiments in low light, no flash photography. 10D, ISO 3200, 28-70 2.8L, using the flash assist light on the 430EX, but no actual flash. Shot of a dancer friend of mine in a cage at a local night club in near darkness. Only strobes, intermittent, for lighting. Turned to B&W because the colors were terrible. The bottom photo was taken earlier in the evening when she was dancing on-stage. Flash was used, but I put a lot of filtration in PhotoShop on the photo to get the effect I wanted.

Stephen, I like what you did with the PS'ing in the bottom shot....kind of an ethereal effect. The middle one is too blurred for my taste, but I like the contrast in the top one.

I find the first and last images to be quite interesting. The first one is actually a little disturbing to me because in my eye she looks almost like she is being impaled. I think this is part of what makes this image good. The viewer can’t really see enough to tell what exactly is going on so it allows the mind to wander more.

The last one is an interesting picture to look at. It almost reminds me of something from H R Gieger (sp?). I like what you have done with the PS and the colors are also very interesting. I really like how the skin looks, almost not human at all. The dancer’s expression is also very pleasing.

    Very nice work,

    Greg

I like the middle shot. She looks like she was doing some wild dancing, hence the blur. But all three are great images. I'd like the third one better if her nose were more defined.

    Hi Steven,

I have found myself returning to these three. I feel they are a departure for you from the very sharp work I've seen from you so far...and I think it's really good. The top two belong together, I think they tell a story of sin and search for redemption. The third is lovely on it's own and reminiscent of silent art films.
