you got great focus on the cactus, but you chopped the top and bottom off ,not giving the subject its true due, should of gone vertical showing us the bottom and top, composed is well.

    Re: cactus1

i wondered if it was worth the sacrifice to get a closer view of the cactus. the piece that extends past the rest was very tall and left a lot of empty sky around it. around the base was also a ton of ugly plants that seemed to me to busy it up too much. i understand though what you mean. maybe i should have just gone wider and got closer to the cactus. i'll keep that in mind when doing things like this from now on. try more to actually fill the frame with the subject rather than doing it with cropping later by cutting it up.

the angle of your photo shows you were looking up to get the upper part of the cactus.. it would be better if you really focused closer. the cactus was too far.i think it looks blurry. the position of the cactus on the screen is not bad. to know the basic photography try to study the rule of thirds.

I like it with the background divided between the rocks and sky on the diagonal.
I would like better sharpness on the cactus, but that could have been lost in the downsizing.

I think this is a very imaginative look at a very vertical subject.

You shot at the worst time of day to get good color so go back there with the sun low in the sky and at your back and try again.
    No, I DON'T need that.
