    Burj-ul-Arab, Dubai, UAE

I am a casual photographer. Just want to know if I have it in me :-)

    I used Kodak DX7590 on a tripod.

Kick ass building design. I think it's an OK shot but there are several things you could have done to make it better. One is to avoid centering the subject - the 'rule of thirds' here might have worked better, where the building is placed at an inflection pt of the center and right-side third. Also, I would have given it more foreground, for it seems like it is cramped a little. I wish there was some car headlight/taillight trails at the bottom to spice it up. It could also be a tad sharper (did you use a tripod?).

Not a bad shot btw. I guess the UAE folks have a sense of design out there

Well, that's the understatement of the year  Kinda like saying Ansel Adams had a couple of decent snapshots. Dubai is home to some of the most colossal and outrageous engineering feats of the 20th and 21st centuries and this hotel was one of the first undertaken. It's a bargain this time of year at $3,676.27 per suite, per night.

    On to the photo:
Not bad for a point and shoot, but I agree with the pointers that GB gave you (the automobile light trails comment not withstanding, as it sits on it's own island in the Gulf). The softness may be due to resizing the shot for the web and not taking the extra step to sharpen the re-size, easy to fix. This is a difficult capture because of the different types of light - makes striking a good color balance very difficult.
