    Bubble Boy

All right, last one for tonight...

This was taken while I was in Maine...all the kids were having a blast with some bubbles we put out for them, including the teenagers...hehe. This is my nephew, using a homemade bubble maker (read: plastic cup, with the bottom cut off...lol!). The bubbles they made were pretty awesome, as you can see.

Gez Emily, ya sure you just took this?!? Looks like a shot from the 1960s at a Woodstock concert.

This one's hard to critique. Nice idea, but... not sure... looks a little strange from the angle you shot it. The shape of the bubble is sort of unusual... (looks like a potato ) . The extreme contrast, it sort of makes me feel like I'm on something, where my senses aren't all working in tip-top shape. The background is so dark, it's like nighttime in the middle of the day. A very unusual photo.

Is he blowing that bubble through a hole in the bottom of the cup btw? Or just holding it up like that as a spoof?

    Excellent !
This "it sort of makes me feel like I'm on something" is exactly the impression I got too.

Get the solution concentration right and you can blow bigger bubbles than this - think a kitchen bowl and a wire coat hanger opened out into a huge bubble wand
On a still day you can almost twist on the spot and spin a balloon around yourself.
It doesn't last long,a dn I wish I'd had my camera when they were doing it at the folk festival kids' morning.

I'd like to see one shot from a little lower, with the bubble blown back over his head - just like a cartoon thought or speech bubble.

GB & Paul...thanks for you thoughts on this!

GB...he is indeed blowing bubbles through the cup...hehe. And yeah, it's a weird one all right, but this was during one of my bubble obsessions...lol.
Paul...my sister's fiance was making all sorts of bubble wand contraptions out of stuff...MacGuyver of bubble wands, I'd say...hehe! I definitely want to try taking some shots of the bigger types...and I'm sure my girls would be thrilled by that too.
I have one other shot of my nephew like this, where the bubble was just starting to get bigger, but I'm not sure I like it as much.

Great catch - it's very strange that I initially wrote a comment re: 60's and Woodstock, then read the first comment by GB. Spooky.

Again, thanks for your thoughts on this, Tuna... It's funny about the Woodstock feel here...

Maybe it's the John Lennon haircut and glasses.

Great shot Emily. And I like how you did the B&W conversion. The contrast is high that areas are blown, but it just works.

    Nice work,
    Tim

p.s. The Woodstock comments crack me up.
