Hi Michael. This is a beautifully composed shot. About the only thing I would do (and this is just me) is add just the slightest hint of saturation. It stands well on its own as is though. I like it very much.

Thanks!
Saturation is always an issue with my images. Believe it or not, the boost in saturation was much higher than I normally use. In fact, the image saturation really doesn't reflect reality but I liked it better this way. I always wonder what other people are actually seeing! Monitors, even calibrated, can render images differently. It looks bright and colorful at home on my CRT, a little dull here on my laptop LCD screen. Oh well!

Michael, I see two main subjects - the spikey ball thing and the 3 rolled leaves. As such, these two side by side tend to make the shot look a little too static. It also looks like the 3 rolled leaves were "planted" there?
Please don't get me wrong, I think these types of shots are really hard to get right. It's ironic isn't it, everything is right there for the shooting but getting just the right composition, subject, background (or, as most often the case, just ground) but it's one of the most difficult shots to translate onto film/digital. Or at least it is for me.
I like the competing subject matter...they add to the picture. I looked over this picture and found my eye focussing on different things every time. Usually, that's a huge downside, but, there is so much texture and feeling in this picture I love it. The saturation is find for me...did you try black and white? I wonder what that would turn into.

Thanks for the comments y'all.
No, the rolled leaves are everywhere. For deciduous (sp?) trees, those leaves that last tend to curl as they dry out. I chose this spot because of the ready-made composition. FWIW, I never pose anything in nature! Not good or bad, just a choice.

I agree! That's what I mean about it being so difficult to get a great shot. Subjects are everywhere but finding just the right cluster of stuff in just the right way in just the right spot in just the right light...
