    Broken Keyhole

Here's an image found while out on a Photo Adventure Day with my friend in Fredericksburg, VA.

    Re: Broken Keyhole

Great subject. . .good eye for spotting an interesting image. I'm not feeling the crop here, though. I think you have included a bit too much of the door on the left. The knob and keyhole are centered in the frame and weakens the composition. I think cropping this from the left eliminating the first panel of the door helps alot. Good

    Hi CL,
That is a great shot of a beautiful knob on an old door. But, I agree with Gary about the crop. I'm thinking something square or portrait might work. Let us know if you change it.

    Question Re: Broken Keyhole

    Thanks Gary & Old School,

I couldn't get over how shiny that knob was compared to the disrepair of the rest of the door and building. I have taken your suggestions to heart and tried a variety of crops. I think the portrait crop for me is now the most interesting. What says the peanut gallery?

Yeah, that is a cool subject, CLK. I'm with you...I like the contrast between the knob and the rest of the door and the keyhole. I think of all the crops, I prefer the very top one you posted...but I would crop just the tiniest bit even more on the right, to get rid of the sliver of black from the next panel. Very nice photo overall.

    Re: Broken Keyhole

For me, it's no contest. . .the middle image of the three. I like seeing the panel down in the right corner as it adds alot to the image. I would crop even further from the left to eliminate the plank and it's shadow gap altogether. But, as it is in your crop, looks great.
