    Brand New Hobby Photographer

    Hi,

I'm brand new to the world of photography, which I would like to take up only as a hobby. Could you please evaluate some of my floral pictures that I took and tell me how to make them better? Here's the link:

    Thanks!

I recommend you post one or two shots here that you want input on.

How to tell the most experienced shooter in a group? They have the least amount of toys on them.

you should post a pic or 2 on here in the future. most people won't go to the links.

As far as your pics go, pretty much everyoen i saw was out of focus. and alot were very blown out. Try not to shoot flowers mid day, or shoot them when its very overcast.

what camera system are you using? if its manual focus try to concentrate on focusing on the center of the flower with a wider DOF. if its manual focus read the camera manual and see if you can change how it focuses to spot, and put the spot on the flower, not the background.

yeah posting one or two shots would get you a more effective critique. most of the shots i saw again were out of focus - and with a rather sloppy background. I think, first things first - you should work on creating a better, more consistant/pleasant background (no cars!) and getting a good focus. also, yeah, like dylan said - shoot on a cloudy day or closer to dusk or dawn,

Hmm...Well everything applys as far as what the others said. On your camera, there should be a button that looks like a small flower. This would be the MACRO setting, it allows you to get very close to a flower and lets the camera focus on it. Here is an example:
