frog .. lucky man to get your wife in your photos. My own dear wife has a terror of the camera - it was all we could do to get her in the pictures at my daughter's wedding! You've captured a nice thoughtful expression there. It looks a tad soft, but you've got nice catchlights.
Nice expression, and I like the unusual angle she has her head at. I do wish it was a little sharper around the eyes, but looks like you shot it in natural light and with slow SS.

Frog,,,you have the making of a fine portrait here..Good lighting and I like the tilt of her head..The only let down is the lack of tonality..It is a bit dark and lacking contrast..Easily fixed in Photoshop etc..

Thankyou, Mike, MB1, GB1,(are you guys related?), and Jurgen.
Mike it is interesting that you find it a bit soft as I was wishing it were softer and that maybe I shouldn't have softened it.
MB, it was lighter and I let her watch as I played with it in pse5 and this is how she liked the exposure.
Jurgen, I'm not sure how to fix 'tonality' but I do know how to fix contrast and as I said I intend to work on it a bit.
Its pretty much one of my first non candid portraits. I kept getting her to turn her head for best light which was actually just her reading light which is on a flexible tube with about a one foot fluorescent light in it.
The auto white balance was about the same as this rendition but it actually had a better color when I changed it to shade in ps.
It was shot with my 50mm at f/1.8 with a 1/80th shutter speed, hand held at 400 iso.
GB, I guess sharper around the eyes is the same as Mike thinking too soft. I'll see what I can do.
Very interesting, Frog. I do like the natural look your wife has here and the lighting looks good as well. I agree it is underexposed and could use a boost in brightness, but not to the point where you would lose this natural looking lighting. I agree it is soft overall.
