    Body parts

I have a body parts challenge to come up with.
I still have a couple more ideas going around in my head but here are the first two.

Some major distortion from my kit (18-55mm) lens but I quite like it.

As always your thoughts are much appreciated

Very interesting shots with great lighting and detail. If there was no red in the eyes, I would have tended toward colour for that shot. (What am I saying, I always shoot colour ) Why did you go for black and white?

    Thank you for the compliments.
The colour versions just didn't do anything for me.
The eyes, I feel, are more striking in the B&W version and there are too many colours going on in the colour version of the feet.

The colour version of the eyes tends to have more "dramatic" lighting but slight underexposure which is the reason that the B&W is more striking. The colour version would require more post-processing to get the lighting around the eyes just right, as well as the skin colour and to make it equally striking.

Yes, the feet pic has some "distractions" in the colour version which are also solvable in post-processing through some selective desaturation but the black and white version is certainly effective.

So, your choices were certainly as appropriate as any others, but realize that there are always alternatives that are worth considering and experimenting with, to open up different approaches to your style and techniqe.

i think that with the eyes all you needed to do was color the iris of the eyes slightly and it would be great:thumbsup: . the feet....keep that b&w, there are too many colors for the right effect.

Nice creativity here... Try a crop of only the left (to us) eye, see how it looks!

I love the amount of detail you've captured here. especially in the second one. The Dof there was great too and it enhances the shot. good job.

Alison,,,,out of all of your images I perfer the colour version of the eyes,,very striking....Exposure is spot on and very sharp where it needs to be....Lighting is great too...
That 50mm 1.8 is a cracker of a lens,,,big bang for the bucks..I have hardly used mine...My 50mm f1.8 cost me the princely sum of a bottle of 12 year old scotch when a friend crossed the floor to Nikon...

I believe EVERYONE should own one or more of those lenses.

Unfortunately, I think people are put off by the price. Y'know they what they say "if it's cheap it's because it's rubbish". That's really not the case with this lens as you can plainly see looking through my gallery. It's full of pics taken with that lens.

I am in love with it and it very rarely leaves my cam. If it broke I would be out buying another straight away!

So now I need to know which of these images do you think stands a chance of winning the challenge?
    Please use the poll. TIA

Alison - Just an experimental crop here ...

There's something about this eye that's powerful enough to stand alone (to me, anyways..)

    Re: Body parts

I can see what you mean GB. And I am drawn to the sirbrush filter image myself but I have gone with a majority vote here. My daighter said the feet. My hubby said the feet even tho he doesn't like B&W images lol. My friend said the feet and there were two votes on here for the feet.
There are alot of feet in the entries actually and I thought it a shame to push aside the eyes but I had to email my entry off today So the feet image is what I mailed.
Looking at that eye alone though, I might ask them if I can take my entry out and replace it with the one eye.
Unfortunately I fear the image may be too small. I'll have a quick play now, see what I can do.

It looks quite soft now it's bigger. Did you sharpen my image some more?

Alison - I did sharpen it a bit. I thought it looked better like that, but I just tried to sharpen the bigger pic you posted here and it just didn't come out right. In this case I think maybe it is better to go with the feet then (everyone else thinks so anyhow )

I think what caught my attention here is the perfectness of *her* right eye there. I used to draw quite a bit and portraiture and figure drawing is a big challenge. Sometimes you only work on one area so that it isn't all so overwhelming - eyes, mouth, nose, overall shape of face, etc. Her eye is just so perfect here... Congrats on the photography and on the air-brushing (and her make up).

Just playing with the single-eye crop,... here it seems like a Sci-Fi movie or something?

    Re: Body parts

yeah looks like all photo posts go into the gallery automatically.

even if it's not your work! (uhh... yeah)

Good luck with the ideas. The last one I posted looks like it belongs in the Twilight Zone.
